Axel Carrion has also had a dynamic, energizing term with Crisis Text Line where he was able to further both his personal and professional development. Some of his most fulfilling moments came from supporting texters and helping them to navigate their situations using empathy, care, and compassion. Axel also poured time, effort, and energy into other events such as the New Graduate Forums, Healthy Hours, Safety Assessments, and much more.
He has learned much from the Crisis Text Line staff, his fellow AmeriCorps members, and the texters during his term and is most proud of the growth in his counseling skills which will greatly intertwine with his future dreams of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and eventually earning his PhD in Social Work. His term has given him hands-on experience in the field and his training taught him to remain present and confront any personal biases when connecting with texters who were facing a crisis so that he could give them the support they needed. Empowered by his service, he aims to focus on the Mental and Behavioral Health of LGBTQIA+ communities.
Working with Crisis Text Line's site supervisor Briana has helped him immensely during the term, as she was pivotal in assisting him with navigating the challenges that can be faced when working in the crisis care space. She provided a fresh perspective and guiding hand throughout the term, which has helped Axel and the other members of this cohort to feel supported and confident in their abilities. We wish all the members the very best in their next steps and hope to see them again soon for another term!
