To Eliminate Health Disparities

  • Healthy Minds Alliance is an AmeriCorps program that takes a community-based approach to the national mental health crisis utilizing evidenced-based programs to train community members on how to prevent, detect and support people with mental illness. AmeriCorps members serve a full-time service term at one of our agency host sites which are located in select locations across the nation. AmeriCorps members are trained as instructors in a mental health program designated by their host site, certifying members of the public, including Mental Health First Aid, QPR, SafeTALK and other evidenced based programs.

     

    Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps Members:

    • Receive instructor certification in an evidenced based mental health training

    • Impact communities by improving outcomes for people who live with mental illness

    • Build their resume and/or application for health profession programs

  • HEALTHForward is an AmeriCorps program that tackles health disparities and the impact of social determinants of health in underserved communities. AmeriCorps members serve full-time at one of the five centers that comprise the CT AHEC Network. AmeriCorps members engage high school, college and health professions students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds in select service learning programs, including the Youth Health Service Corps, Collegiate Health Service Corps and Field Placements, with the goal of reducing health disparities.

    • Impact underserved communities through programs that address health disparities

  • Opioid Addiction Response Specialist (OARS) Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) is an AmeriCorps program that tackles the opioid addiction crisis. VISTA members serve a full year at Health360.  VISTA member’s service focuses on the development and implementation of prevention programs, geared toward urban youth, that address upstream causes of opioid addiction. The VISTA member leads a team of health profession students who deliver educational content to youth, acting as role models and mentors, while learning their role as future health providers in stemming the opioid crisis.
     

     

    OARS VISTA AmeriCorps Members:

    • Gain experience in public health prevention program development and implementation

    • Improve overall youth resiliency and their ability to resist substance use

    • Build their resume and/or application for health profession programs
